How much does each course cost?

The fee is $120.00 for one-half (1/2) unit or $240.00 for one (1) unit. This course fee does not include the cost of textbooks.

When can I enroll in a course?

You can enroll in an High School Independent Study course at any time during the year.

What are the time limits on courses?

The minimum time for completion of a one-half (1/2) unit is thirty (30) days from the date of enrollment. The minimum time for completion of one unit is forty-five (45) days from the date of enrollment. The maximum time for completion is one (1) year.

How do I enroll in a course?

To enroll in a course offered by High School Independent Study, fill out our application form, get the signature of your High School principal and counselor and return it with the appropriate fees.

How many lessons can I send in per week?

You can send in four (4) lessons per week.

Where do I take my tests?

Your tests can be taken at your school or you can come to our Independent Study Office. If you take your tests at your school they will need to be requested on the forms provided in your packet.

Can I retake a test?

Students can retake a test who earn a grade higher than 45. This request will need to be made in writing by the high school principal. Only one retake per test is allowed. The student must pay $40.00 per retake test. The retake test needs to be requested within two (2) weeks of the date of the final grade.

How long will it take to have grades returned?

Grades on lesson assignments are usually returned to the student within 7-10 days; however, when instructors are away for summer vacations or when their commitments are exceptionally heavy, prompt service cannot be guaranteed. Grades for examinations will be mailed back to you just like any other lesson.

How many courses can I take?

You should not enroll for more that two courses of one-half (1/2) unit each at any one time.

How many courses count toward graduation?

Only one (1) unit earned through High School Independent Study may be applied toward graduation in the State of Mississippi.

Do I have to be enrolled in a high school to take High School Independent Study?

You do not have to be enrolled in a high school to take High School Independent Study. Home school students are welcome to take our courses.

Who can proctor my tests?

Each student is required to take all tests under the supervision of a school official (administrator, guidance counselor, or faculty member), none of whom may be a member of the student’s family.

How do I know which course to take?

You will need to check with your school counselor or principal to determine which course that you will need.

Where can I purchase textbooks?

If books are unavailable at your local school, they may be purchased from Barnes & Nobles at Mississippi State University Cullis Wade Depot, Mississippi State, MS 39762, 662.325.1576.

Can I get a refund?

An 80% refund will be made from the date of enrollment through day 30. A 50%
refund will be made from day 31 through day 60. All materials should be returned in good condition and no lesson assignments should have been submitted.

Do I need to print copies of all of my assignments?

Yes, you will need to print copies of assignments for use in studying and in case any lessons are lost.
