Eligibility

Financial Aid sections of Independent Study are available for those students who qualify. Courses run according to Mississippi State University's semesters schedule.

Financial Aid is not available for Independent Study courses in the summer sessions.

For more information on your eligibility and the financial aid process, please contact the Department of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships to see if you qualify. Only the Department of Student Financial Aid & Scholarships can provide information regarding eligibility for financial aid and assist in financial aid paperwork.

Regardless of your eligibility for financial aid, you will be charged tuition for the Independent Study course(s) in which you are enrolled and are responsible for full payment.

The registration deadline for Financial Aid sections of Independent Study coincide with Mississippi State University's Academic Calendar.

Drop/Withdrawals

Please note that students enrolling in the course(s) after the last day to drop a course per the MSU Academic Calendar forfeit the right to drop the course, and the student must complete the course during the term of enrollment.
  • The date the Add/Drop/Withdrawal Form is received by the Operations Unit is the effective date of the withdrawal.
  • A student who withdraws after the 10th day of class will receive a grade of "W" for each course scheduled.
  • No withdrawals will be allowed after a student has taken a final exam.
  • Refunds will conform to the MSU Refund Policy.

NOTE: This policy is for Independent Study courses using Financial Aid ONLY.

Course Completion:

If final course assignments/tests/exams are not submitted by the final due date indicated on your instructor's syllabus, a grade of "F" will be given for the course.

Grade Appeals:

Grade appeals must discussed with your instructor. If you are dissatisfied with the instructor's response to your appeal, you may appeal according to institutional policy and procedures available at: http://www.msstate.edu/dept/audit/1314.html
