Add Drops Withdrawls and Refunds

A request for withdrawal must be made on the Add/Drop/Withdrawal Form (Steps for Withdrawing). There is no 100% refund. Part of the tuition (see Refund Schedule below) may be refunded if you withdraw within 60 days of the date of enrollment (the date your registration form is processed in the Independent Study office) and have submitted no lessons or tests. The refund process requires approximately four to six weeks.

Tuition is due from the time you are registered. Withdrawing from a course does not void the tuition cost.

Depending on the date your Add/Drop/Withdrawal Form is received in the Operations Office, you may be eligible for a partial refund.

There is no 100% refund.

Refund Schedule for Year Based Courses: (Section 555)

  • 80% refund—from enrollment day one (1) through day thirty (30)
  • 45% refund—from day thirty-one (31) through day sixty (60)
  • No refund after sixty (60) days

Refund Schedule for Term Based Courses: (Section 901)

(Student chose to use Financial Aid to pay for their course(s)

  • 80% refund—from day one (1) of enrollement
  • After that we follow the Academic Calendar set by Mississippi State University
  • Contact Betty McCoy at bmccoy@aoce.msstate.edu or 662-325-8382.

An administrative fee comprises the remaining percentage.

Note: Failure to submit a Drop/Withdrawal Form will result in an "F" on the student’s permanent transcript.

Deciding you do not want the course, mailing course materials back to the Independent Study office unopened, or failing to submit payment for the course does not constitute an official withdrawal and does not relieve you of your obligation to pay the tuition for the course(s).

Steps for Withdrawing:

  1. A withdrawal form must be completed. To obtain a Add/Drop/Withdrawal Form:
    • Use the Drop/Withdrawal Form found in your Independent Study course materials packet.
    • Call 662.325.8382 and provide your fax number and we will fax a Drop/Withdrawal Form to you.

Fax: 662.325.2657 or mail your completed Add/Drop/Withdrawal Form to the Operations Office. Remember, returning the form only provides an official signed notification. Any tuition charges still remain to be paid. Any refund will be credited to your account. Allow three weeks for paperwork then contact the Controller's Office, in Account Services.
